“The Band Leader” is a wonderful and very colorful original and unique, one-of-a-kind oil painting signed by the internationally acclaimed artist, actor, and humanitarian, Red Skelton. This special original painting measures 20” x 16” and is framed to an approximate size of 30” x 25.75” using only the finest museum quality materials. Both Mr. and Mrs. Skelton considered “The Band Leader” to be one of Mr. Skelton’s finest oil paintings of his entire career. Red, in addition to being an artist, was an accomplished musician, who composed over 8000 musical compositions during his lifetime. Red and his mother travelled in the Hagenbach and Wallace Circus during Red’s youth, and he was always impressed with the marching bands which were featured at the beginning of each circus performance. The Band Leader, the subject of this incredible painting, was obviously an individual who impressed Red so much that his costume and face remained in Red’s memory for many years after Red and his mother left the circus. Mrs. Skelton frequently spoke about Red’s original paintings, and she always said “The Band Leader” was one of his finest artistic endeavors.
