This very important drawing is framed in the highest museum standards of conservation measuring approximately 21” x 19 1/2”.
According to Mrs. Red Skelton, she and Mr. Skelton believed “The Philosopher” to be one of Red’s best and most memorable works of art.
“Freddie the Freeloader” is portrayed in a thoughtful pose, wearing his famous black hat and holding an unlit cigar, Freddie’s trademark. The character of Freddie the Freeloader was created by Red to represent the best in all of us. Freddie lived in a fictional dump always being kind to everyone he met. Freddie would search the dump everyday, looking for discarded toys, which he would clean and fix and give the toys to the children at the local hospital.
Freddie’s generosity earned him the largest television audience every Christmas, making him as popular as the artist himself.
