“Baggy Red Pants and Big Ears” is an original and unique oil painting on board by the hand of Red Skelton. (The painting bears only the initial “R” but a note from Edna Stillwell Skelton (Red Skelton’s wife) confirms that Red Skelton was indeed the artist who painted this unique clown in 1944.) The painting measures 15.5” x 11.5” and is currently framed in a wood frame (measuring approximately 18” x 14”) likely installed by Red in 1944. The painting is accompanied by a typed note which reads as follows: Dec. 1944 Xmas Dear Rod OConnor Welcome to our show This is one of Reds original painting—baggy red pants and big ears” He likes to try painting and likes trying to be an artist.
